The 2017 Great American Eclipse offers many Wyoming residents an opportunity to capitalize on different streams of money that will flow into the cowboy state.
News 13’s Justin Roth caught up with the Casper Eclipse Festival Executive Director as she talked about AirBNB.
It’s a moment everyone in Casper has been looking forward to for years. The 2017 Total Solar Eclipse will travel directly over Casper.
Anna Wilcox is the Executive Director she says, “A lot of people are seeing dollar signs and not really getting deeply into it to find out what type of liability or insurance have they look to see what else is out there.”
For example, you don’t want to list your home for three thousand dollars when someone else is listing the same type of home for half that. Wilcox adds, “We done a lot of consulting with businesses and private property owners etc that have different ideas just to kind of talk about what the expectation is what people are looking for and how they can possibly meet or match that”
It’s important to look at the market Airb&b offers several different options when signing up, for example you can mark what you want available in your home to the renter.
So why is AirBNB so important? Most hotels are already sold out. AirBNB allows you to rent your home out to people visiting your community instead of a hotel.
“We definitely still have a few hotel rooms left most of them have a five night minimum and some people might only be looking for two nights. There’s quite a few campsites available maybe camping isn’t necessary an option so the idea that somebody could look on AirBNB and sign up to rent or be hosted within somebodies home in the area is ultimately going to be the next option” said Wilcox
So if you’re looking to capitalize on the eclipse keep in mind. The average eclipse watcher spends nearly five thousand dollars during their trip…money that could end up in your pocket.
City of Casper Officials tell news 13 renting out your home is not illegal, but they suggest you check for specific neighborhood ordinances, Your insurance, and homeowners policy to make sure you are complying with the laws.
