Hoofprints of the Past

Hoofprints of the Past Museum is located in an historic building in downtown Kaycee where the unique cultural heritage of Kaycee and the surrounding area is preserved and on display. That unique western history includes:

  •  The Bozeman Trail and Fort Reno
  •   Native Americans and the Dull Knife Battle
  •   The Johnson County Cattle War
  •   The Hole in the Wall Gang

Our collection includes artifacts from these major historical events and famous people in local history. And unlike many museums today, Hoofprints of the Past does not hide away its artifacts in storage, but shares them with the public through its many displays. The museum property also houses a number of historical buildings:

  •   The first Kaycee School
  •   The Mayoworth Store & Post Office
  •   The Kaycee Jail
  •   The Museum has produced many public events that help share local history:
  •   Tours
  •   Western Plays
  •   Musical Performances
  •   Historical Presentations

The museum gift shop offers books on local history, museum mugs, t-shirts, postcards, and other products for sale.
